Minutes from the HOA General meeting on September 23
Minutes from the HOA
General meeting on September 23, 2008

7:00 pm
Meeting called to
order at 7:08 pm by Laura J. Brown, HOA President
Neighborhood Watch
Report – made by Laura Brown
September 22, 2008, 1744 Maco back
door window broken into and three lap tops computers were stolen
Unidentified white van parked in
front of 1738 Maco
Letter by Rob Allen read to
attending members by Laura Brown about strangers in the neighborhood
parked by the large common area, Rob called the police; young black
men were acting in a way that worried Rob.
Derrick Kang made report about
house on Maco that was broken into – 1734 Maco, grill was
stolen form home
It was suggested that another
letter go out to residents that another house in the community go
out about the house being broken into.
Residents suggested a camera
system to be installed to protect the community.
The camera system could be very
simple or extremely expensive depending on what is included.
Members agreed that something
should be done, that people should know their immediate neighbors
and have people in the community and get to know each other.
People in the community should
also know who to contact within the community if something happens,
residents may not want to contact the police if they see something,
but may be more willing to contact a community member
Since break -ins seem to happen
during the day, it was suggested that people who are at home during
the day look after the community.
Julius R. Brown agreed to be a
point of contact and so did Derek Kang, Mike Kester, Sue Bae, Jason
Hamilton, and Carla Lewis. A letter will go out to residents
announcing this with these volunteers’ address and phone
numbers and e-mail addresses.
Sarah Wilkerson gave
the financial report
Sarah discussed the cost for the
cutting of the lawns of all the common areas
She also presented the plan for
phase 2 of the open space
Derek Kang expressed concern about
the spending and stated the common area is not attractive or
inviting
Carla Lewis also commented that
the common area was unattractive and expressed concern and
disappointment on how the common area looked.
Jason Hamilton also expressed
concerns
There was much discussion about
the common area, what has been done, and what was done, and the
displeasure of many of the residents with what has been done who
were present at the meeting
It was decided by the vote that
the community would not continue with phase 2 of the open space with
Good Earth
Carla Lewis questioned what
happened to putting new mulch on all the trees on the tree lawn.
Laura Brown confirmed that the HOA Board had agreed to do that, but
was very involved in the Open Space project that the tree mulching
was simply not done, but can be in the future
Sarah Wilkerson asked for two
volunteers to meet with her and Kara of Good Earth to discuss to
improve phase one. Julius Brown and Mike Kester, both agreed to
assist and gave Sarah their contact information.
Chuck Williams gave
the architectural committee report
Gave the overview of what the
committee does
The committee is responsible for
overseeing that residents follow the HOA bylaws when it comes to
putting up new structures, fences, not cutting their grass, and not
keeping a neat appearance of their property, and more
Current committee members are Bill
Staples, Angela Curry, Jason Hamilton, and Chuck Williams
Chuck is currently sending out
letters to residents who are not cutting their lawns
Health department can also be
called in these matters and they will come out and inspect the area
Chuck and Jason will be stepping
down from this committee and we need other residents to volunteer to
be on this committee.
New Business
presented by Mark Curry
Mark has created a template for
how to spend the HOA money. Residents will be asked to put there
ideas down and then research how much it would cost and then secure
any contractors to submit a proposal to the HOA Board and community
Laura Brown will be sending out a
letter to all residents about the Neighborhood Watch and this
template will be included in this mailing.
Julius Brown requested that
$10,000.00 of the current funds be reserved for a community
emergency
Chuck suggested taking pictures of
people who come to your door with your digital camera so we can
easily identify people who are not members of our community
Voting for
Amendment for changing how dues are collated
To change the amendment that
allows residents to by half of their dues twice a year, to all of
the dues once a year, in March.
To change an amendment their has
to be a 2/3 vote of the entire community. Those who attended voted
and some voted by proxy, but there was not a presence of a 2/3 vote
from the residents. The HOA Board agreed to go door to door after
the meeting to make sure as many residents as possible vote and meet
the requirement of a 2/3 vote.
The HOA Board is down one member
and currently Laura Brown is serving as the president and the
secretary of the association.

Suspicious Cars in Our Area
A second car has been parked on Maco by the walk way that leads up to the school. It is parked there for several hours, but is gone after school is dismissed. Residents think that it may be a person working at the school. That person should be parking in the school parking lot. If you know the color, make, and tag number for that car, please report it a HOA Board member.

Home Invations in Ridge Forest Glen
Cpl D.B. Long of the Anne Arundel County Police Department stopped by my house late last night (7/11/2008) to inform me that there have been four home invations in the area over the last two weeks. The most recent was on Maco on 7/11/2008.
There are four African American teenage males that are involved and it is possible they are older. They are dressed preppy and non-threatening. They home invations are happening about 8:15 am. The men ring the door bell and if there is no response in about 30 seconds they run around to the back of the house and break in. One witness did see a purple car at the scene on Maco.
Please speak to your immediate neighbors and inform this of this. Below is the contact informatio for the police.
Cpl. Long - patrols mall and our area - 410-222-8050
Capt Flemings - 410-222-6155
Lt. Zywislek - 410-222-6155
Please call the police if you see anything. One more thing. People are out walking their dogs at that time of day, but these young men just wait until the walkers pass by. Please be aleart of your surroundings, turn on your house alarms and keep all your doors and windows locked when you are not home. Be safe and keep the community and police informed.
HOA Board will be sending out an official notice.

Open Space Development Starts April 21, 2008
I am pleased to announce that the work on the Open Space at the intersection of Maco and Urbanik will begin on April 21st. The work is estimated to take about a week. The Open Space Committee and the HOA Board members have worked very hard to make this happen.
Notices were sent out to committee members twice asking for any concerns about the plans and there was just one and it was addressed and resolved.
It is our hope that you will enjoy the open space and to remember that this area belongs to all of us and to be mindful of each other.
Take Care,
Laura Brown,
